Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, One of the Hottest Collector Cars

0

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren has joined Hagerty’s 2023 Bull List and it’s in an exclusive club. The Lamborghini Murcielago, Hummer H1, and C5 Corvette are there as well. What do they have in common? Exactly. Almost nothing at all.

Oh, yes, we can play that card. They all have four wheels, an engine, a steering wheel, and the list goes on. But that’s what cars are made of, right? Oh, we almost forgot. There is a motorcycle on the list as well, so… there goes that theory. “Half the wheels, twice the thrills,” as they say.

The list Hagerty came up with is quite diverse, it’s not rocket science. And the Mercedes-Ben SLR McLaren snatched one spot in there. Which makes it a hot car to add to a collection of… other hot cars.

Hagerty claims it is, like all its companions on the Bull Market list, a car that you should just go out and buy right now. They base their recommendation on an analysis that evaluates models that have the biggest chances to hold their value or appreciate over the upcoming year. This year, for the sixth time, they came up with ten cars and one motorcycle.

The 2004-2010 Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR is estimated between $329,300 and $338,700. But you don’t buy such a car to sell it for more money. You buy it because you’re an enthusiast, because you really, really, REALLY want to have one, even if you’re gonna crown it as a garage queen.

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren – supercar status

This model is the most expensive of the lot. Back then it came with a V8 in a rear-wheel drive setup, throwing to the tarmac 626 PS (617 HP) and 780 Nm (575 lb-ft). It took 3.8 seconds to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) and could flash its way to 334 km/h (208 mph). Those are huge figures for the era it comes from, that lift it all the way to supercar status. It was Lamborghini fast, true. So can it keep up with the Murcielago, will it leave the Italian bull in a cloud of dust or will it be a “better had stayed at home” kind of drag race for the Mercedes? You can find the answer in the video below.
