Father’s Day weekend car & truck show returns to downtown Waynesboro

Cars and trucks will be returning to downtown on Father’s Day weekend thanks to Mainstreet Waynesboro and several new partners.

The Father’s Day Weekend Car & Truck Show will be held Saturday, June 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with vehicles stretching from center square to Walnut Street to the east and Potomac Street to the west.

Registration costs $12 per vehicle and opens at 7 a.m. The show is a joint project of Mainstreet Waynesboro, the Appalachian Golden Classics Car Club of Waynesboro and Buchanan Automotive.

Admission to the car and truck show is free.

The show is open to all classic and showcase vehicles of any make and model. The first 100 entries will receive commemorative dash plaques. Registration costs $12 per vehicle.

Trophies will be awarded for Best of Show, Mayor’s Trophy, Coolest Jeep, Father’s Choice and more.

Monthly car payments near $600 as SUV and truck sales surge: Experian

The average monthly car loan payments are on the rise, surging upwards of $600, as an increasing number of consumers switch back to financing new vehicles, according to Experian’s latest auto financing report.

During the last three months of the 2020 fiscal year, consumers borrowed almost $2,000 more for new vehicles, spending on average $35,228, according to Experian’s State of the Automotive Finance Market report.

This pushed their monthly bill from about $13 to upwards of $576 during that period, according to Experian.

“The events of 2020 disrupted the automotive industry and we’ve seen some consumers shift away from patterns that have been cemented over previous quarters such as opting for used vehicles,” Experian senior director of automotive financial solutions Melinda Zabritski, said.

A reader wandering around a parking garage in China sent us some pictures of an exciting automotive unicorn: A new DARTZ truck, fully bonkers as is required of any fine DARTZ product, but this one has yet to be officially announced or shown. Even better, the pre-release truck is wearing a kicky yellow banner that has a stern and grimly comical message to, I expect, any number of other car-builders in China.

The beast is a DARTZ Prombon Black Alligator MMXX, the redesigned version of the Black Alligator that was released in 2017, which DARTZ gleefully told us would be the SUV that would “fuck Rolls-Royce big car before it will be born,” which is a pretty solid tagline for a car.
