Tesla might be opening a showroom and service center in Mishawaka

With an undisclosed “high-end” electric car maker looking to open a showroom and service center in Mishawaka, some nearby residents think all the signs point to one company: Tesla.

The Mishawaka Plan Commission voted 4-3 this week in favor of a proposal by a Chicago-based developer to convert the former JC Penney Home Store, at Grape and Cleveland roads, into a 36,000-square-foot automotive facility.

Chris Sotos, a representative of Key Development Partners, told the commission his company has a contract to buy the site from its local owner and lease it to the auto company.

Sotos did not name the prospective tenant but described it as a “high-end electric automobile, solar power and renewable energy” company.

When The Tribune asked whether that tenant would be Tesla, Mishawaka City Planner Ken Prince said the developer had not disclosed that information to the city.

Eau Claire Police Department teams up with automotive service to deter catalytic converter theft

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – The Eau Claire Police Department and Victory Automotive have teamed up to prevent catalytic converter theft at zero cost to the public.

Two stripes of high heat paints will be painted onto your catalytic converter to deter a thief from stealing the device. The service will be free of charge on May 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Victory Automotive on Hamilton Avenue in Eau Claire.

Police and Victory Automotive say this will not damage your car or the health of those inside the vehicle. A minor smell can be expected for a day or two.

The University of Wisconsin- Stout and the City of Eau Claire have had recent cases of catalytic converter thefts.

Cox Automotive signs service deal with U.S. commercial EV maker

DETROIT (Reuters) – U.S. electric commercial vehicle maker Electric Last Mile Solutions (ELMS) said on Monday it has signed a letter of intent for Cox Automotive to supply service and repairs for the delivery van it will launch later this year.

Under the deal, Cox’s Pivet unit will provide warranty repairs, vehicle maintenance, roadside assistance, collision repairs and EV battery servicing to ELMS’ customers, the companies said. Cox boasts a network of more than 6,000 service centers, 3,000 partners and over 800 mobile technicians. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“The opportunity to collaborate with industry leader Cox Automotive helps put us on track to offer customers one of the most comprehensive service solutions that addresses their fleet needs in the most time and cost-efficient manner,” ELMS Chief Executive James Taylor said in a statement.
