Last week’s leak of from the 2024 Corvette E-Ray visualizer not only brought us details of the next C8 Corvette to be offered, but it also gave us a preview of the three new exterior colors to the 2024 Corvette. We already covered the new Cacti Green and for today’s deep dive, we take a closer look at the new Riptide Blue Metallic.
The current hues of Blue, Elkhart Lake Blue and Rapid Blue, have been on the Corvette Stingray since 2020. Elkhart Lake Blue has always been well represented in C8 production, and it has ranged in popularity from 6.7% during its inaugural year to 5.5% for 2022. Between 2020-2022, a total of 4,494 Corvettes were offered in the color versus 5,888 completed in Rapid Blue.
New for 2024 is Riptide Blue Metallic which will replace Elkhart Lake Blue. There’s some confusion about the color since the Visualizer seems to lighten exterior colors based on what we saw with Cacti, and the online representation for Riptide makes it look nearly identical to Rapid Blue. But the color is darker than Rapid Blue, and it features metallic flake in its color, as opposed to Rapid Blue’s flat appearance.
For 2024, Chevrolet is offering Riptide Blue Metallic on the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox and the show car is being displayed ahead of its production start in Riptide Blue. We grabbed this screenshot from a MotorTrend walkaround video showing the color appearing to be darker than what is shown in the visualizer.
To our eyes, the color is lighter than the outgoing Elkhart Lake Blue and seems to slot somewhere between the historical colors of Nassau Blue and Jetstream Blue Metallic, which was last offered on the C6 Corvette.
The other interesting trend we are seeing for 2024, at least for now, is Chevrolet using the Cacti and Riptide names on multiple vehicles. Usually, when Chevy uses the same exterior paint on the Corvette that it uses on other models, the Corvette paints are given unique marketing names that are exclusive to the Corvette model lineup.
One of the wheel options shown in the visualizer leak was the Satin Black five-spoke wheels with a Blue Stripe around the rim, and we are wondering if these wheels could hint at a special edition package coming for the E-Ray. We’ll know more in the coming months, so stay tuned!
