FC Dallas is on the cusp of first place in the Western Conference thanks to a nine-game unbeaten run in league play. If all goes well at 9 p.m. Wednesday at Vancouver, FCD can match its win total from a year ago (seven) and lay claim as the best team in the league a third of the way through the season.
It’s a far cry from the 2021 campaign, where FCD missed the postseason by 15 points and were only three points off the bottom of the conference table.
FCD (22 points) is one point back of LAFC in the Western Conference, with the two teams claiming the highest point totals across MLS early in the season. LAFC hosts Austin at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, so a win may only briefly put FCD at the top of the table.
Anchored by the best scoring defense in the league (eight goals allowed), FCD visits the conference’s joint-worst scoring team (10 goals). FCD is fresh off a 3-1 win over fourth-place LA Galaxy, which was the league’s second-best scoring defense before Jesús Ferreira scored his MLS-leading eighth and ninth goals.
FCD returns home to Frisco’s Toyota Stadium at 6 p.m. Sunday against Minnesota.
