A man and a woman killed in a crash early Thursday in Newark were riding in a vehicle struck by a stolen car that was speeding, authorities said.

Two of the occupants of the stolen car are being sought by police.

Felix Valdez, 47, and a woman who has not been identified were in a car struck by a Dodge Charger at the corner of West Runyon Street and Elizabeth Avenue shortly after 4:30 a.m., the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said Friday.

Three people in the stolen car — females whose ages were not provided — were brought to a local hospital to be treated and are in stable condition. Two teenage boys or men in the Dodge ran away before police and emergency workers arrived. It wasn’t immediately clear who was driving the Dodge or in which direction the vehicles were traveling.

Valdez was pronounced dead at the scene. The Dodge was stolen in nearby Union.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

Surveillance video obtained by WABC-7 shows the Dodge slamming into the other vehicle at the intersection and then catching fire.

Additional information wasn’t immediately available from the prosecutor’s office.
